Update 2/16/18: SOLD OUT
Using her own case study, Shanna Parker combs through police records, all-points bulletins, child protective service records, and news media accounts of her specific case and others, to assist in painting a picture of what a sex trafficking victim might look like. Shanna's victimization began at 9 and moved to trafficking by age 13. At age 18, her trafficker was given the death penalty for a double murder. Much like Shanna's case, law enforcement and child welfare professionals come into contact with trafficked victims every day, but without knowing signs to look for, they may miss identifying these victims.
Participants will walk away with:
A better understanding of misidentification and tips law enforcement and social services professionals can use to help stop victimization and avoid re-victimization;
Knowledge of the motives and operation methods traffickers use to bring in victims and evade law enforcement detection;
Identification of red flags that authorities can use to recognize many forms of trafficking in comunities; and
Ways to better interact with the commercial sexual exploitation of children and adults.
