*This event is FREE and open to the public!*
Mark your calendars and save the date for the 6th Annual American Indian Domestic Violence Awareness Day of Unity hosted by the Absentee Shawnee Tribe’s Domestic Violence and Family Services Program in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Keynote speaker: Lisa Brunner, White Earth Ojibwe.
In coming up with a theme for this year’s DVAM, we wanted to keep the citizens of our community mindful that while one person can make a difference, change for the good of the community is a collective effort and that EVERY citizen, regardless of age or gender, plays a role in making that change. With that in mind, the theme for this year’s domestic violence awareness month is “Ending Domestic Violence Together”
To stress the importance of community, we’ll also be using a quote attributed to Tecumseh, a Shawnee leader, who recognized the power of community:
“A single twig breaks, but a bundle of twigs is strong.”
